In Remembrance

It is said that Canada became a country during the war. In no small way Newfoundland and Labrador also came into its own in battle. Although the terms can be debated; dominion, republic, province, territory, colony - we know who we are. We know who we are because of the men and women that fought for this land.

For this weeks discussion we'd like to hear your thoughts on Newfoundland and Labradors coming of age in the great war. Your thoughts on those who died for our freedom and its place in our history.

The first World War was an unnecessary war, with no particular goal, the fallout of which, Newfoundland and Labrador still suffer under today, both economically and socially.
Regardless of the point of this war, the Newfoundlanders and Labradorians who fought in this war, like any other war, had only one motive: to serve the people of this nation/province/colony. They endured unspeakable horrors and made unfathomable sacrifices in the belief that they were protecting their own families and homes, and indeed the entire world. We have yet to, and truly never can, fully repay them for this.
